3.Causing grievous hurt.
4.Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
5.Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or mean.
6.Employment of children.
7.Trafficking of children.
8.Sexual Abuse
a.Rape
b.Seduction, Prostitution or unlawful carnal intercourse of a female child.
c.Grave sexual abuse
d.Incest
9.Offence of gross indecency & punishment.
10.Unnatural acts of punishment.
11.Kidnap & abduction of children
12.Procuration (engaging children in prostitution)
13.Hiring or Employing procurers.
14.Obscene publication & exhibition relating to children.
15.Developing obscene publications
16.Indulging in homosexual activity with males

Note :
The complainer can inform the police station about any of the above cases by
phone, fax, letter or direct visit. The complainer can either visit the Women and
Child Bureau in the Police Headquarters or the respective police stations.

Important Information for Victims
There are 36 police divisional offices handled by the Women and child bureau of Police headquarters.
In all the 36 police divisional offices there are OIC (Officer In-charge), WSI (Women sub-Inspector)
or the officers higher than these positions.

*The Police Officer cannot take people into custody regarding domestic violence, but if theres any
casualties involved the guilty part will be taken into custody.
*This division provides a lawyer free of charge for complainers when required.
*All the services are provided to the public who face such a situation free of charge.
*If anyone is trying to mislead the division by providing false information the court will
take action against him/her.
*Children under the age of 18 are not permitted to be married.

o I have to fill in an application form to make a complaint regards to rape cases or child abuse ?
No application forms to be filled by public.

NOTE: The complainer should inform division as soon as possible for his / her benefit.
Citizens from any part of the country can make complaints at the main police
department (Only if justice was not met at the necessary police department)

How does the complaint work on rape cases and child abuse (Step by Step Procedure) ?
Step 1: The complainer informs about the case by phone call,
letter or visit to women and child division.
Note 01 : If its a rape case the complainer should complain as
soon as possible. its towards complainers benefit.
Step 2: Police takes down complain from the victim.
Step 3: If the victim is injured he/she is first taken to the hospital by the Police Officer.
Step 4: The JMO (Judicial Medical Officer) of the relevant hospital has to check the victim.
Note 01 : If its a child abuse case the JMO and police must fill the MEDICO-
LEGAL EXAMINATIOIN FORM given by women & child division of police headquarters.
Step 5: An OIC or ASP or the officer who gets the permission must be handling these cases.
Step 6: The Police division has to collect evidence in order to take action on the victims case. Evidence collection includes medical tests, fingerprints, DNA tests, Search by police dogs are performed.
Step 7: The suspect is arrested by the relevant Police Officers
Step 8: Usually within 24 hours the suspect should forwards to court, in a child abuse case.
Step 9: If the child is without a guardian(s) or with the permission of guardian(s) the victim is forwarded to a rehabilitation camp, the women and child bureau watches monitors the victim during this time.

What is the validity time period regards to child abuse and rape cases ?
" Within 24 hours the suspect (s) should be forward to the courts.
" If its a child abuse case the suspect (s) can kept in custody for72 hours with the court permission
