Financial Assistance for Journalists Training Courses

As stipulated in the “Mahinda Chintana” Development Programme, the Ministry of Mass Media and Information wishes to grant Financial Assistance for Journalists to develop their professional skills through Training courses.

Objective
The objective of this projects is to develop professional skills journalist by providing them with training opportunities and to encourage them for such training to meet the challenges of 21 st century.

Traget Group
Journalists who are presently engaged in the field of print or electronic media on full time or part time basis in the reputed media institutions in the country.

Financial Facilities
Financial Assistance will be provided under this project for the journalists who have been selected for the short term training courses (Less than 06 month period) and long term. Certificate and Diploma Courses(Mor than 06 months) offered by the local Universities and Government Higher Educational/ Training Institutions, to coverthe course fees. This will be paid direct to the respective organizations by the Ministry on the request of the selected journalists. Those who have already obtained such qualifications may also apply for re- imbursement of tuiton fees of the courses commendced and conducted during the year 2008.

Seclection Criteria
The following criteria will be applied for selection of candidates.

  • Should be an accredited working journalist in a state or private media institutionor should be a free lance journalist.
  • The trainees should fulfill the requirements of the relevant training course offered by the University / Training institute and get himself/herself selected to the course applied for (A photocopy of the letter of selection should be attached to the application)
  • Shall be between 18-55 years of age.

Mode of Selection
Applicants will be interiviewed by a Selection committee appointed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Mass Media and Information. The decision of the Ministry Secretary on the selection will be final and conclusive.

Duly completed applications made substantially on the following format should be sent under registered post clearly indicating the expected Trainig course on the top left hand corner of the envelope enclosing the Application to receive …….addressed to Secretary No. 163, Kirulapone Mawatha, Polhengoda, Colombo 05.
