Facilities given to Passengers Going Abroad

• No duty is being charged for any personal item of a passenger. Yet, carrying goods in commercial nature is not allowed without an export license.
• Departing travelers who are permanent-residents in Sri Lanka are permitted to carry in person or bona-fide personal baggage, articles of personal jewellery not in Commercial Quantities or in commercial nature, on bring back basis.
  
• A returning passenger coming in to Sri Lanka can wear or bring personal jewelleries with his/her bona-fide baggage. But they are should not be in commercial quantity or in commercial nature. If someone is bringing jewellary which cannot be considered as personal, should be declared to the Customs at the arrival  passenger terminal.
  
• Articles of gold in crude/raw/unwrought/semi-manufactured form will not be treated as Jewellary.
  
• A normal passenger can carry local products not exceeding Rs. 10,000.00 which should not be in commercial nature or not in commercial quantity. Each item which you carry should be declared to the Customs and the prohibited goods will be forfeited and the restricted goods need to have a license.
