Examination for the selection of qualified persons to be requested as Traditional Ayurvedic Medical Practitioners is conducted annually. Successful candidates will be permitted to practice as an Ayurvedic Medical Practitioner in the Island after the registration.

Eligibilities
Candidate,

1. Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
2. Should complete 18th years of age.
3. Should have passed two subject at the G.C.E. A/L examination and obtained an ordinary pass in Mathematics at the G.C.E. O/L examination and Credit Pass in Sinhala at the G.C.E. A/L examination or G.C.E. O/L examination.

or
Should have passed the intermediate examination in oriental studies in the Piriven Education system

or
Should have passed the G.C.E. O/L examination in not more than two sittings with and ordinary passed in Mathematics and three credit passes including Sinhala language in case of children of Traditional Medical Practitioners or pupils of chief incumbents of the temples registered with Ayurvedic Medical Council.

or
Should have passed six subjects including Sinhala and Mathematics at the final examination for Primary pirvenas

or
Should have passed the first examination in oriental studies in the Piriven Education system.

or
Should have passed the first examination in either of two Pirivenas of Vidyodaya/Vidyalankara.
