One of the main functions of the Authority is to promote consumer education with regard to good health, safety and security of consumers.
It is expected to make aware the public on consumer rights as well as on responsibilities of the consumers.
Furthermore it is expected to empower the consumer groups to raise a strong voice to safeguard the common interests of the consumers.
One of the key functions entrusted to the Consumer Affairs and Information Division is to promote, assist and encourage the establishment of consumer organisations.
Following programmes are conducted under this service.
- Awareness programmes for identified target group (Government officers, School children, University students, Coomunity base organizations, General bublic)?
- Inter school competitions such as Art, Essays, quiz and Drama
- Celebrating international days related to Consumerism (WCRD,WCD)
- Knowledge dissemination through mass media.
- Establishment of Consumer Organizations
Eligibility:
Any interested individual consumer /group of Consumers / Schools can make a request to the Authority.
Submission Procedure
Request should be made to the Director General of the Consumer Affairs Authority.
Application Forms:
There is no predesigned application form Applicants can forward their request by a letter.
After the establishment of a Consumer Organization it has to be registered at the CAA.
Procedure:
Step 1:Applicant forward a request to the Director General Consumer Affairs Authority
Step 2:Consumer Affairs and Information Division designs the program.
Step 3:Decide on venue, date & time of the program
Step 4:Assign a team to conduct the Program
Step 5:Feed back and monitoring
Step 6:If the Consumers interested to form a Society, Setup a Consumer Organization

A group of consumers can form a consumer organisation as per the constitution designed for the consumer organisation and register their organisation at the CAA.
