Instances where Eligibility to claim

• Taking over of institutions to government
• Conversion of a government owned business undertaking into public company
• Restructuring of institution/ Nationalization
• Closure of Government Corporations and statutory boards
  

It is necessary to have been obtained the prior approval of the Commissioner General of Labour by the employees who leave the employment on the above reasons. Benefits will only be paid to the employees who have obtained the said approval.

N:B: In all the above instances, it is compulsory to have been left the employment at the time of claming for benefits.

Method of submitting application

Places where application form could be obtained:-

Counter on the ground floor of the Head office, all District offices and Labour sub offices, and website: labourdept.gov.lk

Time to submit application:-

Completed application form should, by the member himself/herself, be handed over to the nearest District labour office or labour sub office in the district where he/she resides, during the office hours of a working day.

No service charge

Period taken to provide the Service (Ordinary Service and Priority Service)

03 weeks, if all documents are completed

Necessary Supporting documents

• Application certified by the last employer, “B” cards relevant to membership numbers, National Identity card and a copy of National Identity card certified by the employer, copy of bank pass book;
• Completed “K” form with its part II certified by the employer should be submitted to Head office

Exceptions, instances not included above and special information

If there are shortcomings in the documents, such matters can be discussed with the Deputy Commissioner of Labour or Assistant Commissioner of Labour of the Labour office to which the application is handed over.
