Social Development Programme

The intention of this program is to identify social problems in order to develop the economic levels of the under privileged groups in society, in order to achieve the main objectives of the Sri Lanka Samurdhi Authority and to solve other issues that have occurred due to these problems, and develop spiritual and moral values of people.

a) Drug Control Program
The economic life of poor families collapse due to the use of drugs and this causes so many problems. The ultimate result would be aggravation of poverty. Drug programme was implemented to minimize the use of drugs, and alleviate poverty.
Programme on drug prevention is conducted by divisional secretariat levels to cover the disriccts and progress island wide implementing these programmes.

b) Prevention of child abuse and child welfare programs
The Sri Lanka Samurdhi authority jointly with a National child protection Authority conducts different programmers to protect children’s rights, and responsibilities and the prevent child abuse.
Steps were taken by the Kekulu Children’s social establishment to strengthen and synchronise mental and physical health conditions and drawing competitions, children’s Pola, talent shows and improving of cultural and ethical values were some of the programmes held by the organization

c) Commemoration of International Days
The social development programme conducts island wide programmers to commemorate 04 international days at the rate of one per quarter in each year.
International Women’s Day (08th March)
International Anti Smoking Day (31st May)
International Literacy Day (08th September)
International Day for Alleviation of Poverty (10th - 17th October)
International Children’s and Parents Day ( October 01st )

d) Welfare of Elders
This programme has been implemented under the social development programme to commemorate international Elder’s Day that commence on 01st October.

e) Housing program
The poor and helpless people at the Grama Niladari, regional and divisional levels without houses to call their own are identified and houses were built for them by the Social Development Foundation.
