Step 1: “M.T.A. 34” Application must be obtained form Werahara office or district Motor traffic office
• Motor traffic branch in the District Secretariat office (For Offline Service)
• Werahara office (For On line service)
Step 2: Application should be submit to the following office with the other mandatory documents
• Motor traffic branch in the District Secretariat office (For Offline Service)
• Werahara office (For On line service)
Step 3: Applicant sits for the written examination on the call of the Department
Step 4: If the written examination passed by the applicant can be obtaine a Lerners permit
Step 5: Applicant does not passed the written examination he/she can apply written exam three times.
Step 6: Applicant can fased the practical test after three months from the written test, practical test date given by the DMT
Step 7: Applicant handovers his/her current license to the examiner.
Step 8: Department issues the New Extended License (license will be send to the applicant by post, till that issued a temporary DL)
Note:
If applicant fails the written examination:
Applicant can re apply for the written examination by paying Rs.250.00 up to three times
If the applicant fails the practical examination:
Applicant can re apply for the practical examination by making the full payment up to three times

Eligibility
1. Any applicant being an owner of a driving license can apply for the service of obtaining certification of license.
2. Reason for applying this service is the need to drive different type of vehicles, which are not authorized by the current license
3. Any applicant being a permanent resident within Sri Lanka can apply for this service
4. Following are the conditions required to obtain the service:
• Applicant being a citizen of Sri Lanka
• Applicant being over 18 years of age
• Sitting for a written test and a practical examinations
• Produce with a certification of identity at both written and practical examinations
• Passing of both above examinations
• Provide with all the documents required within the process (please refer to the section: “Documents Required”)
• Duration between the submission of the application and the practical test, been less than six months
Note:
Any applicant who is not able to meet with above conditions will be considered disqualified from obtaining the service.

Surcharge:
At failing on the written test, an applicant must pay Rs. 100.00 for re applying (only valid for three re-applies)

Support Documents Required
1. National Identity Card / Original and a photocopy of a valid Passport, containing NIC number
2. Medical certification, from a MBBS certified medical officer
3. Current driving license
If applying for a license of bus or lorry:
1. A Medical Certification issued by the C.T.B. Medical Institute
2. A Certification of Competency issued by a grade “A” driving school
3. Three copies of black and white photos of size: 2*2 ”

If the Applicant is not able to Read or Write:
1. He/she must sit three times for the written examination
2. Obtain a certification letter from the Grama Niladhari
3. Apply for a verbal examination in substitution of the written examination
If the Applicant Fails the Practical Examination and if he has Applied for a License of Heavy Duty Vehicles:
Applicant is not allowed to re-apply for the practical examination within 14 days.
If he has Applied for a License of a Light Vehicles:
Applicant is not allowed to re-apply for the practical examination within 7 days.
