- Importation of Motor Vehicle under the Gift Scheme for Temples.
- Importation of Motor Vehicle under the Gift Scheme for an organization.
Eligibility
- Applicant should be registered
- Motor Vehicle should have been used
- Vehicle should be right hand driven
- Should not be a vehicle with CFC A/C
- There should be a certificate to the effect that it was shipped after earth and mud had been removed from it.
Support Documents Required
- Registration documents of the vehicle
- A photograph of the vehicle
- A copy of the vehicle invoice
- A copy of the invoice obtained from the Department of Import and Export Control
Importation of Motor Vehicle Under the Gift Scheme from a Family Member:
- Copies of Birth/Marriage Certificates to prove relationship
- A copy of the NIC of the license holder Visa details of the donor
- A confirmation letter from the company where the donor is employed
- Photocopies of the passport of the donor (pages containing personal details, validity period, data of departure from Sri Lanka
- Photocopy of valid visa (with English translation) to prove that he/she has gone abroad for employment and completed one year's stay in that country
- Letter from employer indicating the date of appointment, post held and salary paid to the donor, the fax number and e-mail address of the employee should be mentioned in this letter
- Bank documents showing foreign earnings and remittances to Sri Lanka during the period of employment abroad
- Registration Certificate/ Cancellation of Registration (re-registration) Certificate of the vehicle (with English translations)
Importation of Motor Vehicle Under the Gift Scheme for Temples:
- Details of the vehicle
- If the applicant has been gifted a vehicle previously-
- Details of the previous import
- A letter from the Organization to confirm the donation
- Registration Number of the vehicle
- If the applicant or another person has attempted to import or to release the vehicle from the customs, all such details should be provided to the customs
- If the vehicle is exempted fro the Gift tax, a letter of exemption obtained from the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs should be attached.

Procedure
Step 1: Obtain the Application Form from Unit 02.
Step 2: Submission of filled Application Form and the relevant Support documents to Unit 02.
Step 3: If all the support documents are submitted and application is filled properly,the applicant is submitted to Asst. controller approve..
Step 4: Applicant pays the license fee to the Cashier and submits the invoice to Unit 02
Step 5: Issue the license.
Note:
- If the relevant support documents are not submitted then notify applicant about the required documents.
- If the Application Form is not filled properly, assist the applicant to fill the Form.

Validity Time Line: The validity period for this service is 03 months
Note : If the applicant wishes to get an extension on the validity period he/she should make request to the Controller with valid reasons. The Controller will decide whether to grant the request or not.
Costs Related to the Service
Cost: No cost involved in obtaining Application Form
Fee: The fee will be a percentage of the CIF value mentioned below. This is payable to the department by bank draft.
