Use of the Archaeological Department Library

Collection
The library consists of a collection of books published locally and abroad on subject of archaeology. The total collection is about 11,000 books. Majority of the books is in English language.

Type of Readers
Archaeological specialists, lectures, professors, university and school students who aspire knowledge and other readers who are interested in the subject,

Ho the Service is Rendered
This is a reference library No lending service is operated. Persons who wish to do reference work should make an application to the Director of General Services in writing clarifying their identity and necessity and on his permission they can use the library.
University and school students should forward a letter from their educational institutes. There is no photo copying in the library.
Required notes should be taken down by the reader concerned. In special circumstances, on a special permission photographing with digital camera may be allowed.

Opening Hours
On week days - 8:30 a.m to 4:00 p.m. Closed on Saturday and Sunday and public holidays.

Photography Section
Procedure to the adopted for taking photographs by the Photography Section .

  • For obtaining a photograph, a written application specifying the need should be forwarded. (The need may be private /departmental / official/ miscellaneous)
  • Form available in the Photograph Division should be correctly filled and obtained approval from the Director (General Services)
  • When photographs are required, their size should be correctly mentioned.
  • Charges decided for black and white photographs and coloured photographs should be paid to the department and obtained a vouchers (This is not in operation now)
  • If photographs are to be taken into a compact diskette, applicant should bring a compact diskette.
  • As rates for photographs have not been decided, Director (General Services) should be consulted on them. Rates for photographs have to be revised.
