BRIDGES

With the construction of over 300 bridges throughout Sri Lanka to its credit, since its inception, the SD&CC can claim with confidence that it specializes in bridge building. Almost all the bridges constructed have been concrete structures using concrete cylinders or concrete piles for foundations, reinforced concrete sub structures with pre-stressed concrete beams for the decks.

SD&CC manufactures pre-tensioned Concrete beams up to 25.0m length and post-tensioned beams from 25.0m to 40.0m length.

The Road Development Authority (RDA) and the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka (MASL) and Urban Development Authority (UDA) are the major clients for whom almost all the bridges have been constructed by SD&CC.

HYDRO POWER TUNNELS AND POWER PROJECTS

SD&CC is capable of handling any type of tunneling work either for hydro power or Irrigation projects.

- Welioya tunnel of 1.25km in length was constructed for Department of Irrigation.

- Tunnel repair works and another works of Pollgolla, Canyon, Bowatena and Wimalasurendra tunnels.

-Canyon Hydro Power Project with an installed capacity of 60 MW was constructed for Ceylon Electricity Board, with

• 4,000 meters long D-shaped fully concrete lined Tunnel of 3m diameter
• Surge chamber & tail race canal
• Power houses, switchyard and other ancillary service structures

IRRIGATION SYSTEMS

In the field of Irrigation, SD & CC has undertaken the construction of wide range of structures,

• - Diversion Dams
• - Anicuts
• - Earth bunds
• - Down stream structures

ROADS

SD&CC has undertaken the widening and improvement of existing roads and the construction of new roads to modern standards for Road Development Authority (RDA) and Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka (MASL). This includes a substantial quantum of road development in mountain terrain as well.

Access road to Kukule Ganga Hydro Power Project, Roads in Kothmale and Victoria Power Projects, 50km length of New Kandy Girandurukotte road are some of the major projects undertaken

BUILDINGS

SD&CC has to its credit the construction of several single and multi -storied buildings. Among them are,

• Coastal Engineering Laboratory Building project at Katubedda (Lanka Hydraulic Institute)
• The Six-Storied Repair Centre Building for the Sri Lanka Telecom.
• Staff quarters and Admin. building & Drawing office for Faculty of Engineering University of Ruhuna
• Awissawella Bus Park & Town centre

WATER SUPPLY PROJECTS

SD&CC undertakes the construction of water supply projects, such as water towers, intakes, treatment plants pipe laying etc.

Improvement to Water Treatment Plant at Ambatale, ADB funded Anuradhapura water supply projects are some major projects undertaken by SD & CC.

TRAFFIC LIGHT SIGNAL SYSTEM (TLS)

SD&CC undertakes maintenance and operation of existing traffic light signal system and installation of new systems. This new systems has already been implemented at three road junctions in suburbs of Colombo. The system has been extend for cities outside Colombo [Katugastota, Nittambuwa, and Matara etc.]
