Obtaining the Service of the Plant Protection Unit

Who can apply:
Farmers/Estates who are growing Cinnamon, Pepper, Coffee, cocoa, cardamom, nutmeg, clove, betel, arecanut, vanilla, turmeric,  ginger, etc.
and having pest and disease prblems in  their cultivations

Nature of the Service:
Plant Protection Unit of the Department holds the responsibility of coordinating the plant protection activities for EAC crops. Its' fuctions include providing direct advisory services to farmer problems, direct new pest and disease problems to Research Division, Coordinate Research Officers, Extension Staff and farmers to provide necessary advisory services and record keeping on prevalence of pest and disease problems in EAC crops.

How to apply for the service:
Submit the request to Export Agriculture Extension Officer based at the nearest Agrarian Service Centre or
to Assistant Director/Officer In-Charge, Plant Protection Unit or
to Deputy Director (Research) or
to District Assistant Director
by a letter, TP call or by personel visit. 

Time to apply for the service:
Extension Officer - 8.30 a.m - 4.15 p.m on wednesdays only
Other Officers - 8.30 a.m - 4.15 p.m

How to Provide the service:
If the probleme is clear and not at the serious levl verbal advises will be provided. If the problem is unclear or present in significant level a group of scientists will visit the cultivation, inspect and will adivise to control the problem

At free of charge

Time taken to provide the Service:
Within two weeks - one month
