Obtaining of Procession Permits

Step 1 : Applicant / Organizer makes request to the respective police station at least 6 hours before procession.
Step 2 : The OIC of the respective Police station will decide on whether the Procession is possible to be certified by the A.S.P
Step 3 :The OIC checks on what the processions is about, checks on fliers, posters and other equipment to be used in the processions, and only once he is satisfied he passes it on to the A.S.P for approval.
Step 4 : A.S.P rechecks the details and then approves permit for procession.

Note : If procession has a possibility of accumulating a large gathering the respective police stations advice the Organizer to notify the respective police stations well in advance not confining to 6 hrs deadline. The police stations have to make sure alternative measures are been taken to prevent hindrance to community.

Qualification Criteria

Any citizen or foreigner based in Sri Lanka having a valid reason in requesting a Procession Permit.

Disqualification Criteria

Pre Procession
The procession permit is disapproved if false documents and false information are presented at the time of requesting Procession Permit.

Post Procession

The procession is dissolved if the Officer in Charge identifies the following offences being carried out by the Procession Organizers.
Procession taking a different route
Unruly and Violent Crowd
Use of Abusive Language

Submission Procedure
Visit Respective Police Station
The applicant or organizer should visit the respective police station to make a request for a Procession Permit.

Obtain Application Form
The applicant or Organizer has to fill a hand written Procession Permit Application form. The applicant has to attach the following documents when requesting for permit.

Documents Required
National Identity Card
Details of Residential and Office Address
Details of Place of Employment
If applicant/organizer is a part of a political party, the party should be mentioned to the Police Station.
Copies of Poster, Fliers and other Materials to be used for Procession

Submit Application Form
The applicant has to Submit Application Form along with support documents to the Police Station.

Note : The Applicant or organizer is requested to submit a hand written request to the respective Police station justifying his reasons for need to request for a Procession Permit.
