Providing residential protection and facilities to orphaned, deserted, destitute and abused children.

To provide residential protection and facilities to children who have been orphaned, neglected, destitute and abused, there are 90 Child Development Centers registered within the Western Province. Additionally, a government-supported center that enrolls children is in operation too. The details about children who have been enrolled to these centers are mentioned below. Also, the catalogue of Voluntary Child Development Centers has been included in this publication.

Proposed Programme 2010


It has been planned to increase the provision of residential custody facilities up to 4000 from 3500 in 2010, for children defined as aforementioned by law. For this, it has been decided to increase the number of registered Child Development Centers from 90 up to110.
