Objectives of establishing a women’s society

  • Organizing Women’s Societies at grass-root level
  • Improvement of leadership skills of women
  • Mobilizing savings and credit facilities
  • Training on financial recording
  • Programs for exchange of experience among Women’s Societies
  • Capacity building programs

Each Society which has been established should be registered under the Women’s Bureau, Minimum of 10 Women’s Societies has to be established within the respective division

Eligibility
Any woman who is over 18 years old could join this Society
Note: Minimum number of members for one Women’s Society should be 20

Submission Procedure

1 Obtain an application form
Application form has to be obtained from the divisional secretariat

Additional Constitution for Establishing a new Women’s Society
2 Support documents required
Request Letter
 
3 Hand over application form
A group of Women has to submit a Request letter to the Grama Niladhari stating the reason for establishing the women’s society.
Application form has to be filled and handed over to the Divisional Secretariat after establishing the Women’s Society.

Process Timeline:
Registration Process takes about 3 months

Submission Timeline:
Group of women can submit a request letter any time to the respective Grama Niladhari (Within working hours and days of Grama Niladhari)

Grama Niladhari Office
Monday 9.00 am – 4.45 pm
Thursday & Saturday 9.00 am – 12.00 noon
Holidays: All Public and Mercantile Holidays

Group of women can submit the registration form to the respective Divisional Secretariat within working days.

Divisional Secretariat Office: 9.00am – 4.30pm Monday and Wednesday

Cost Related to the Services

Cost:
No cost involved

Fee:

  • Entry Fee Rs. 5/=
  • Membership fee can be charged based on the decision of Large Cooperatives (Maha Sabawe)
  • Share Price of membership will be Rs.100; this could be paid in installments.

Penalties:
If for no reason the membership fees are not paid for 3 months, the membership can be cancelled based on the decision of the Women's Society.

Surcharges:
There is no any additional cost involved
