  • Advises the Government and Government Departments on legal matters.
  • Appears for the Government and for Government Institutions in legal proceedings.
  • All actions by or against the State should be instituted in the name of the Attorney General.
  • Section 461 of the Civil Procedure Code makes it compulsory for one month's notice to be given to the Attorney General before any action is filed against him as representing the State.
  • The Attorney General promotes the settlement of disputes between Government Departments and Public Corporations in appropriate cases.
  • Entertains petitions from the public and endeavors to effect administrative relief in appropriate cases.
