Education, Training and Communication are important functions of the Botanic Gardens . At present the gardens are conducting one-day, two-day and three-month long courses in floriculture and landscape gardening providing training for over 15,000 people a year.

Education and Training Programmes

1.One Day, Two Day Short Courses on Floriculture and Landscaping Gardening

2.Three Month Course in Floriculture and Landscaping Gardening

3.One Year National Diploma in Floriculture and Landscape Gardening

4.Two Year Higher National Diploma in Floriculture and Landscaping Gardening

Admission Requirements The participants must have passed the G.C.E. (O.L.) Examination with at least 6 subjects in one sitting and must be over 18 yrs of age but not exceeding 35 years. All candidates must have a good command of the English language.

Enrolment to the Course Participants of the course will be selected by interview conducted by Royal Botanic Gardens Peradeniya. Application will be called through newspaper advertisements

Language of the Course Course will be conducted in Sinhala medium but all candidates must have a good command of English language.

Duration of the Course

The course will be a one year full time with practical component. Held from 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.on week days.

Two Year National Diploma in Floriculture and Landscape Gardening

Admission Requirements The participants must have passed the G.C.E. (A/L) examination with Botany or Agriculture as a subject and must be over 18 yrs of age but not exceeding 35 years. The course will be conducted in English and all candidates must have a good command of the English language.

Enrolment to the Course Participants of the course will be selected by the written examination conducted by Royal Botanic Gardens Peradeniya. Application will be called by newspaper advertisements

Duration of the Course The course will be a 2 year full time practical course conducted from 7.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. daily for 5 days a week.
