Obtaining permits for the Refuse Tea Processing Centers and issuing trade license for purchasing and Transporting Refuse Teas

Eligibility and required Documents

The centre which is expected to obtain permit for a refuse tea processing centre, should consist of following requirements.

• Machinery use to obtain good tea from refuse tea should be in proper standard.
• The hall should be with a roof and a cement floor.
• Should be with sanitary facilities.
• Processing activity should be carried out at the maximum capacity recommended by the Sri Lanka Tea Board.
• After ascertaining the fulfillment of the above requirements, a permit will be issued for a period of one year. The permit could renew year by year.

In order to obtain a permit for transporting refuse tea from tea factory to refuse tea processing centre, the following documents are required.

• A consent letter given by the tea factory which is expected to purchase refuse tea
• A copy of the document regarding the registration of refuse tea processing centre issued by Sri Lanka Tea Board.

The application together with the above documents should be forwarded to the relevant regional office of Sri Lanka Tea Board which the factory is located. Then a license which is valid for one week will be issued to transport refuse tea from the factory to processing centre.

Application Procedure

Application Form - There is no specific application form in this regards.
Those who wish to apply to get permits, should send a letter mentioning the necessity with the relevant information stated above, to the Head Office of Sri Lnka Tea board or Assistant Tea Commissioner's office located at seven regions in the country.

Fees payable to obtain the service - Should pay Rs. 1,000/- for a permit.
The annual fee for renewing the permit is Rs.1,000/-

Time lapse to offer service -The permit will be issued during a week.
